Search Your Library
Web Highlights gives you full-text search across everything you've saved — highlights, bookmarks, notes, tags, and AI summaries. Whether you have dozens or thousands of items, search gets you to the right content in seconds.
Where to Search
In the Sidebar (Extension)
The sidebar includes a search field at the top of the highlights list. Type to filter the current page's highlights by text content or note text.
In the Web App
The web app has a dedicated Search section in the sidebar navigation. From here, search spans your entire library across multiple entity types — pages, highlights, AI summaries, and more.
You can also use the search field within any entity view (Pages, Highlights, Tags, etc.) to filter that specific collection.
What Gets Searched
Search looks through:
- Highlight text — The text you highlighted on web pages, PDFs, and YouTube transcripts
- Notes — Your rich-text notes attached to highlights
- Page titles and descriptions — The metadata of your saved bookmarks
- Tags — Use the
tag:prefix to search by tag name (e.g.tag:research) - URLs and domains — Find everything you saved from a specific website
Search Tips
- Use specific terms — Searching for "React useMemo performance" is more effective than "React"
- Search by tag — Type
tag:thesisto see all content taggedthesis. This also works in the search field of the web app's filter bar. - Combine with filters — On Ultimate, you can stack search with advanced filters (date range, color, domain, etc.) for precise results
- Search notes — If you wrote a note saying "cite this in chapter 3," searching "chapter 3" will surface that highlight
Plan Availability
Basic search is available on all plans. Advanced filters and combining search with tag/date/color filters are Ultimate features. See Web App — Grid & Filters for details.
