State capitals are hard for a simple reason: in 33 of the 50 states, the capital is not the largest city. New York has Albany, California has Sacramento, Florida has Tallahassee, and the list goes on. This category covers all 50 states and capitals in four decks that follow the US Census Bureau regions: the Northeast (9 states), the Midwest (12), the South (16) and the West (13). Each card asks for one capital. Wherever the answer is not the city you would expect, a short note names the bigger city and says how the smaller one got the job. Washington, D.C. is a federal district rather than a state, so it has no card here.
