How to Export Safari Bookmarks (+ Restore & Import Guide)

Exporting Safari bookmarks saves every bookmark and folder into a single HTML file. The exact menu path in Safari is below, step by step. Once you have the file you can keep it as a backup, move it to another computer, or use it to restore your bookmarks in another browser or import them into Web Highlights.

Every step in Safari:

  1. Open Safari.
  2. In the menu bar, click File โ†’ Export Browsing Data to File....Step 2: Click File and click Export Browsing Data to File...
  3. Enable the toggle switch for Bookmarks and click Export.Step 3: Click File and click Export Browsing Data to File...
  4. Save the .zip file to your computer.
  5. Extract the .zip file to get the HTML file.

How to Restore Bookmarks in Safari

  1. Open Safari.
  2. In the menu bar, click File โ†’ Import Browsing Data from File or Folder.Step 2: Click File and click Import From
  3. Click Choose File or Folder....Step 3: Click Choose File or Folder...
  4. Navigate to your local backup HTML file, select it, and click Import.
  5. The imported bookmarks will be added to your existing bookmarks.

Note: Imported bookmarks will be added in a new folder under Bookmarks. The name will be in this format Imported (date).

Import Bookmarks to Web Highlights

  1. Install the Web Highlights extension on your browser.
  2. Open Web Highlights settings.
  3. Go to Integrations.Step 2: Go to Integrations
  4. Go to Bookmarks Import.Step 3: Go to Bookmarks Import
  5. Click Upload bookmarks file and select the HTML file you exported.Step 4: Upload bookmarks file
  6. Click Import to add your bookmarks to Web Highlights.Step 5: Click Import
