Quick highlighter: highlight text as soon as you select it

Done Requested Shipped in v13.0.48 →

Turn on a highlighting mode and every passage you select is highlighted right away in your chosen color — no popup, no extra click. Made for long reading sessions where you highlight a lot.

What you can do

  • Select text and it's highlighted right away in your current color, without the highlight popup
  • Turn it on with the highlighter button in the sidebar header or Alt + Q (Option + Q on Mac), and off with Esc
  • Switch between your five last-used colors with one click or the keys 1 to 5
  • Works on web pages and PDFs, in the Android app's reader and in Edge or Kiwi on Android

This is in the works. I'm designing how you'll switch it on and pick the color so it fits naturally into the sidebar, and then I'll build it. Upvote it if you would use it.

Update: it's built. You'll turn it on with the highlighter button in the sidebar header, next to the bell. From then on every text you select is highlighted right away, and a small pill in the corner of the page lets you change the color or stop (Esc works too). I'll mark this as done here as soon as it's in your extension.

Shipped! Version 13.0.48 brings the quick highlighter to your extension. Click the highlighter button in the sidebar header or press Alt + Q (Option + Q on Mac), and every text you select is highlighted right away. The bar at the bottom of the page puts your five last-used colors one click away, or press 1 to 5. Esc turns it off. It also works on PDFs and on your Android phone. Thanks for asking for it!
