What this would unlock
- A local-only mode: highlights, notes, and bookmarks stay on your device and never reach the cloud
- Switch cloud sync off without signing out, so your paid features keep working
- For privacy-conscious readers and for work devices where data must not leave the machine
- Keep highlighting everywhere while syncing nothing — instead of turning the extension off site by site

Today your plan and your library live with your account, so signing out means the extension falls back to the free, local-only mode — you keep highlighting, but paid features stop. Making sync optional while the plan stays active is a much deeper change than a settings toggle: the whole license check runs through the account. I've thought about it, but so far very few people have asked for it, so it isn't planned right now. If you want it, vote here — that's exactly how I decide what to build next.
