Web Highlights provides me with a synchronized, one-click "save-for-later" workflow that significantly improves my productivity
Solution Architect from France
What is your job and in which areas are you focusing on?
I am currently employed as a solution architect, responsible for digital claim filing assets at a global insurance company. However, my experience with Web Highlights began nearly two years ago during my end-of-master's internship. In France, completing an internship is mandatory upon finishing an MSc degree, regardless of prior professional experience. My professional responsibilities require me to spend at least 10 hours daily working across various web browsers. This includes tasks such as reading emails, creating JIRA tickets, writing documentation, and designing technical and functional diagrams.
How do you use Web Highlights in your daily work routine?
Given the volume of information I encounter, recalling critical details can become challenging. Web Highlights provides me with a synchronized, one-click "save-for-later" workflow that significantly improves my productivity. As someone who struggles with memory retention and attention span due to ADHD, having an efficient tool for capturing and revisiting important information is essential. Previously, during my internship, I used Web Highlights to write the functional documentation of a legacy webapp that is 7 years old. I used this documentation as part of my full-time employment to build the new webapp that will replace it. Initially, I utilized Web Highlights by copying markdown content into Obsidian; I have since transitioned to using Capacities instead.
In what ways has Web Highlights helped you manage your workload or improve your productivity?
Previously, I relied on OneNote to record important thoughts, links, or content. However, this approach required navigating away from my browser to the desktop application or switching tabs frequently. With Web Highlights, I can simply press Alt+B or Alt+S without disrupting my workflow. Additionally, it seamlessly synchronizes across all my browsers and devices—of which I typically have at least four active simultaneously.
Can you share any specific examples of how Web Highlights made your work easier or more efficient?
As someone who regularly conducts demonstrations for internal and external stakeholders, my primary use case for Web Highlighter is, as its name implies, highlighting specific sections of text during screen-sharing sessions. Additionally, during these demonstrations, I utilize the tool to quickly capture notes based on comments and feedback from colleagues and participants. This practice significantly streamlines the process of preparing meeting minutes afterward. Most importantly, as I am responsible for two highly complex web applications currently undergoing rapid growth—with frequent introduction of new and breaking features—Web Highlights enables me to document these changes efficiently. Rather than drafting theoretical explanations or capturing and annotating screenshots at a later stage, I can directly use the extension to highlight relevant content, apply consistent tags corresponding to specific features, and record brief notes that I subsequently expand upon in Capacities. The seamless integration with Capacities has reduced the time required for this documentation task by up to 50%. As a side note, writing documentation and styling the content in Confluence is VERY slow when you have hundreds of large pages, more so when you add images. Using Web Highlights and Capacities is significantly faster.
Would you recommend Web Highlights to others? If so, why?
I have already given a 5 star rating on the Chrome/Firefox stores and on Product Hunt. This extension and its webapp are so well-designed and so polished. I have encountered 0 bugs so far in all of my usage, and there is no other extension that provides the same feature set. For anyone who has a use for such a tool, this is the best one. It is even far superior to the native Capacities web highlighter, which is crazy.
