In this case, Chrome even recommends looking for alternatives to the given extension.

A good alternative to the Readwise Highlighter might be the annotation tool Web Highlights, which offers similar features like highlighting text on any website or PDF.

You can install the website highlighter here:

Why are Chrome Extensions no longer supported?

Chrome has recently updated the Chrome Web Store and its framework, introducing a new manifest version, V3.

Developers have had several years to switch their extensions to this new version. However, the deadline is approaching, and extensions still using V2 manifests will soon be unsupported.

As a result, users with these outdated extensions are being advised to find replacements before support ends.

Final Thoughts

It's good that Chrome keeps the Chrome Web Store up to date, ensuring extensions adapt to the latest version. Chrome has given developers plenty of time for this transition, but the deadline is now approaching, and some extensions will soon be unsupported.

If you're using outdated extensions, we recommend looking for alternatives. You can also contact the developers to see if they plan to update to V3.

Of course, our PDF & Web Highlighter annotation tool has been updated to Manifest V3 for a long time and none of our users have to worry, because our application will also be available in the Chrome Web Store in the future.
