Cold Turkey Blocker (8.50)
is the one you can’t switch off in the middle of a block, and BlockSite (8.40) is the most installed with 1,000,000
users, though its free version is limited. It took about two months
of one-star reviews before a new version removed them. The current version looks tamer: it no longer runs scripts on
the sites you visit and keeps your tracking data in local storage. But the package still contains addresses on the
same ad-tracking domain, and the short privacy policy doesn’t explain why. Messages, groups, search and profiles keep working.

It never blocks a site. What it adds instead is friction around the feed: a snooze that brings feeds back for anything
from a minute to 24 hours, an optional hold-to-snooze button that makes you hold for five seconds to get thirty
seconds of feed, and a lock on its own settings. It’s free and open source, and Tooltivity’s review calls its
permission set the smallest in the category: it asks for each site only when you switch that site on. The weak spot is
the one every feed remover shares.
